
Cherith Summers
Art advisor, specialist and art historian
Based between London, New York & Edinburgh, Cherith Summers is an experienced art advisor and art historian, with specialist knowledge of Post War, Contemporary and Emerging Art.
Cherith entered the advisory world at Murphy & Partners, where she worked for seven years. In this capacity, Cherith strategised and managed complex selling projects, utilising auction, private, and gallery selling venues to realise the highest possible value for her clients; worked with interior designers and yacht designers on site specific art acquisitions; and has most enjoyed working with her clients to find and advise on the strategy and acquisitions of their dream collections.

Cherith’s international network of industry contacts and private collectors provides her with superior access to find artworks and, paired with a transparent and straightforward approach and rigorous due diligence, allows her to provide exceptional art advice to her client base.


ABOUT
Cherith holds an MA in Art History and English and an MLitt in Museum & Gallery Studies from the University of St Andrews, where she wrote the biography of Erica Brausen (Francis Bacon’s first gallerist) as her thesis.
Her previous work experience also includes a year spent working at the Estate of Francis Bacon, and two years in the Post War & Contemporary department of Christie’s London.
In 2019 she was the co-curator of Brave New Visions: The émigrés who transformed the British art world, an exhibition which ran as part of the Insiders / Outsiders Festival, and which was hosted by Sotheby’s. She has delivered art historical papers at Sotheby’s Institute of Arts; the Association for Art History; the Ben Uri Gallery; London Art Week and Lyons Learning Centre; contributed to the Art Market Dictionary; and has delivered lectures for Sotheby’s Institute of Art for their Art & Business courses.
